Qualifications and Soft skills!  A win all round

You may be surprised to learn that getting release to attend a union course is not a cost to your employers. They gain from it too!

Many of our courses give you Open College Network (OCN) credits. These are national qualifications recognised by employers. These courses can:

  •      Help you progress to diploma and/or degree courses
  •      Provide evidence of your on- going learning & development.
  •      And… give you ‘soft skills’ that also help your day to day work.

Our studies have shown that the ‘soft skills’ you pick up on our training courses can help you in your career and give you skills you can ‘transfer’ and use in your daily work. Soft skills can range from working in a group to growing your confidence in report writing and presentational skills.

So your employer is building up the qualifications and skills sets of their workforce while you learn.

Level 1 and 2 Courses are for newly appointed stewards and / or those stewards who have not yet attended a UNISON training course

Level 3 Courses are for more experienced stewards and if you have been a steward for a while and been on UNISON or TUC courses then you can develop your skills and knowledge by attending these courses.  These courses could also be for fairly new reps who have a particular interest in an area of union work e.g. pensions, though for some you do need to have completed Level 1 courses first.

Level 4 Courses are advanced courses and / or updates.

Law Courses - we run local introduction to Employment Law courses (called Rights at Work) and more advanced updates and briefings.

Organising and Running Your Branch these are courses to help branch officers in their roles - we will be running the courses in conjunction with Greater London Region
